The first mercy
“Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”
Genesis 3:21
Adam and Eve have just ruined everything. They're hiding behind fig leaves, which is what shame always does — improvises a cover that doesn't work.
There are consequences, and they're real. But before they leave the garden, God does something quiet: He makes them clothes. Actual, durable ones. And something died to make them.
Judgment and mercy arrive in the same scene. God doesn't pretend the wrong didn't happen, and He doesn't abandon them in it.
That's the pattern for the rest of the Bible. God tells the truth about sin and covers the sinner.

The first thing God does after the first sin is make clothes for the people who committed it.
