The prayer with no words
“Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard... And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit... but have poured out my soul before the LORD.”
1 Samuel 1:13–15
Hannah wants a child and doesn't have one, in a culture where that fact defined a woman's whole worth. She's been mocked for it at home for years.
At the tabernacle she prays with her mouth moving and no sound coming out. The priest watches her and assumes she's drunk. Even the professional gets it wrong.
Her answer is one of the best descriptions of prayer anywhere: 'I have poured out my soul before the LORD.' Not recited. Poured out.
The text says afterward her face was no longer sad — and that's before anything in her circumstances changed. Something got handed over in that room.
Put plainly
Prayer isn't performance, and it doesn't require good sentences. Hannah had no voice and no eloquence, and God heard all of it.
